Cultural Transylvania Itinerary

8 Day Trip. 6 Days Walking/Hiking

During your 6 days Cultural tour we will visit the stunning UNESCO towns of Brasov and Sighisoara; fascinating fortified churches, an Orthodox monastery and ancient Citadels. You will discover traditional crafts, food and wine in quiet villages lost in time and finally experience the beautiful mountain scenery of Piatra Craiului and the magnificent Brown bears. The tour is run by skilled locals with a wide knowledge of the culture and history. All profits will support the work of our social projects in Romania.

Transport: You will be transported in a comfortable minibus.

Accommodation: All hotels and guesthouses have been carefully chosen to offer comfortable ensuite rooms in buildings that reflect the character of the area.

Itinerary

  • 12.30: Arrive Ghimbold Airport, Brasov. We will collect you from the Airport and transfer to a restaurant for lunch. Following this we will have our first visit to the Feldiora Citadel. We will then drive to the old village of Crit where we will stay in a newly renovated old village house.

  • After a delicious buffet breakfast we will drive to the old village of Viscri where there will be a Tour of the Old Fortified Church. Additional visits will be to the Blacksmiths Forge and the house of King Charles 111. After a short meander around the village we will return to Crit for supper.

  • After breakfast we have a short transfer to Sighisoara Citadel which is a Unseco protected Saxon Fortification. The day will be spent enjoying a Tour, the cafe culture and selecting a restaurant for a light lunch. There are also a few museums that are open for a visit. Following that we will transfer to our next picturesque village of Biertan for another two night stay.

  • Following a leisurely breakfast we will visit the Biertan Fortified Church and have a tour around the village. We then transfer to Copsa Mare for a locally made lunch and an optional horse and cart ride near the village before walking back to Biertan. The afternoon is free but in the evening we will visit a Richis winery for supper and tasting.

  • Breakfast follows with a transfer to Sambata De Sus to visit the Orthodox Monastery for a guided tour and explanation of the main religious denomination in Romania. From there we travel to Lisa to visit the traditional, home owned woollen mill before a relaxing afternoon in the Piatra Craiului mountains.

  • We now head towards the magnificent Old Saxon City of Brasov. On the journey we will visit the amazing Libearty Bear Sanctuary that houses previously mistreated or sick bears. Following this we visit the incredible Bran castle and folk museum. In the afternoon we arrive at Brasov Old Town and settle into our Casa Chitic our Hotel for the next two nights.

  • Today includes a guided tour of the Saxon Old Town, visit to the Black Church and trip up the cable car to view the panoramic views.

    For lunch you choose your own restaurant and either wander for the afternoon or have a short walk to some additional parts of the Old Town.

  • Transport will be available after breakfast to transfer to Brasov Ghimbav. Other transport options available with prior arrangment.
